If you know Griffin then you know how amazing he is!
He is bright, funny and has the hugest heart in the world, not a single thing could ruin his day! Griffin loved to share stories about his Pokemon, video games and of course about his many favourite snacks and treats!
2 years ago, Griffin was a healthy eight year old boy who played Hockey, Lacrosse, and Rugby. He loved swimming , spending time at the lake boating and fishing. He also loved riding his bike and hanging with his friends and family.
Sunday Feb 16, 2020, Griffin woke up with a severe headache and told his mom, not long after that , he had collapsed and was starting to seize. Paramedics came and he was rushed to the hospital unconscious. They did an emergency CT scan and discovered he had extensive bleeding in his brain and required immediate surgery to relieve the pressure. The surgery removed a portion of his skull to stabilize him, for his transport by air to the Jim Pattison's Children's Hospital (JPCH) in Saskatoon. The doctors also found what caused the bleed. It was called an AVM (ArterioVenous Malformation) in his brain that had ruptured. The family was absolutely devastated and their worlds came to an abrupt stop, waiting for any piece of good news.
After five really tough months in Saskatoon, which included the onslaught of COVID against the world, Griffin was finally stable enough to return home to Regina.
He was transferred to the Regina General Hospital, where he continued his healing with the help of amazing doctors, nurses and staff. This was another very long and tough road for Griffin and his family with no visitor access except his parents due to covid.
In September 2020 Griffin was finally ready to come home, and is now living with a severe brain injury and requires full time care. He is in a wheelchair, nonverbal and has a feeding tube. He needs extensive therapy and has to relearn everything. We want to give Griffin the best opportunity to recover to his fullest potential.
First Steps Wellness Centre is a private therapy in Regina where Griffin currently attends therapy sessions periodically. These sessions allow him just to maintain the movement he has. They have amazing testimonials and recovery stories, of people with similar battles Griffin faces. Griffin is ready to take the next step and start intensive full time therapy with them, meaning daily sessions. We are looking to support the family with this cost by raising funds to go towards a more intensive therapy program for Griffin.
From the Family
We are thankful for all donations and for your support in helping us reach our goal. Please come out and enjoy a great night with family and friends to help make Griffin strong. We want to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in Griffin's life on his road to recovery.
