Recognizing International Women's Day
Every year International Women's Day (March 8th) celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity by encouraging and uplifting women to pursue goals without bias or barriers.
In recognition of International Women’s Day, the AHBL Women’s Forum is partnering with Mamas for Mamas to support mothers and caregivers in crisis with a virtual 50/50 raffle fundraiser!
Mamas for Mamas is a national charitable organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles. Their mission is to change the landscape of poverty through innovative approaches to financial barriers faced by struggling families.
What’s a 50/50 raffle?
It’s like a normal raffle, but instead of a prize, the Women’s Forum will split the proceeds in half with the winner, and the other half is donated to Mamas for Mamas. Anyone can participate, even if you just have a few dollars. The more people donate, the better chance you have to win much more!
How it Works
- Buy your raffle tickets online between March 1st - March 14th. You will receive an email of your ticket stubs per transaction.
- Once the raffle ends, the winnings will be calculated and divided in half.
- On March 15th, the winner will be drawn through an online random number generator.
- The winner will be announced on March 15th and will take home half of the total amount raised! The other half will be donated to Mamas for Mamas.
- Additionally, the Women’s Forum will match the amount taken by the winner to increase the impact of our donation to Mamas for Mamas.
About Mamas for Mamas
While their name is Mamas for Mamas, they welcome caregivers of any gender identity or expression, including men, trans*, non-binary, and two-spirit clients. Mamas for Mamas works to change the systems that contribute to the cycle of poverty, mental health issues, housing, and food insecurity across Canada by offering the following:
- The Karma Market, a free store full of essential items where struggling families can access anything they need at no cost;
- Individualized help navigating the available resources for food security, affordable housing, education, and access to our in-house mental health team where counseling is available at no cost for those who qualify;
- Community-based sharing economies for families, with a resource coordinator available for preventative and intervention based poverty relief; and
- Referral services for Mamas to all existing community programs and fill gaps in service when possible.
