“The wind blows whether you like it or not.” I have been creating artwork on and off for many years. I find creating to be like riding a bike. One of the most difficult parts is starting. Like a bike there are flat sections, hilly parts, and break downs. Mental “unwellness” sucks. It affects all avenues of a person’s life. I appreciate your support.

Hello, my name is Natalie Simpson. I am grateful to have the opportunity to display my painting. I began to show an interest in art since I was little and story books were read to me.

Art is my expression of inner self. Emotions that are bothersome can be transformed by smooth paint strokes from the heart onto the canvas. I find a great joy and healing in using Indian Ink media, which is more liquid than any other paint. So, a careful handling and a steady hand are needed. I also love when mistakes turn into brilliant forms and well thought out piece turns into chaos and back into an acceptable form. Art reminds me of life: we have plans, only to have them "dismantled" by unexpected evens, yet it all comes together at the end. As an artist I truly believe that we live to learn and create, not to be victims of societal norms of money and artificial success. Spiritual freedom emerges from breaking free from worrying what others think about us. love,

I am an artist currently focusing on human and tree beings in acrylic paint. I also write and advocate for the de-stigmatization of mental health issues.

I am deeply passionate about the connection between art and mental health. I retired from my career as a corporate lawyer earlier this year following a suicide attempt and its trying aftermath. While hospitalized in the psychiatric ward, I picked up the free markers and started drawing. Art has since been a constant and central anchor in my recovery from chronic depression and anxiety. It has given me a new way to relate to the natural world and to navigate my emotions within it. Through these therapeutic explorations I have also been undergoing a parallel process of actualization as an emerging visual artist.

Outside of art, I am a mom to two girls (almost 2 and almost 4) and an avid cyclist and skier. See you out on the trails!
