Workshop Details

Amy, a Certified Child Life Specialist, will inform participants about what a Child Life Specialist is and how a child could benefit from a Child Life Therapy.

Certified Child Life Specialists are educated and clinically trained in the developmental impact of illness and injury. Their role helps improve patient and family care, satisfaction, and overall experience.

In both healthcare and community settings, Child Life Specialists help infants, children, youth, and families cope with the stress and uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, injury, trauma, disability, loss, and bereavement. They provide evidence-based developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education to reduce fear, anxiety, and pain.

Amy Staheli

My work experience with youth started as a coordinator of the Western Canada Summer Games where I was in a supportive role for the athletes and the event. My passion for helping others transitioned me to become an event coordinator with the Weekend to End Breast Cancer where I was intimately involved with people who were dealing with the disease. As I continued my education down in Portland Oregon my journey brought me to Legacy Emanuel Hospital where I was privileged enough to work alongside the child life program there. As I completed my education, I had the opportunity to move to Phoenix Arizona where I began an intensive internship with Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. As my training commenced and my certification began, I received a role as a child life specialist at Ryan House a pediatric hospice and respite facility. All my roles have proven to be rewarding and challenging and all these experiences have helped me develop the skills to help you and your family.
