Donate and Dine - This Valentine

Donate and Dine-This Valentine is the Rotary Club of Grimsby’s newest community fundraiser designed to help our community by bringing a little joy into our lives while raising funds (during these restricted Covid-19 times). We help community organization deliver their programs and support Grimsby and West Niagara's citizens.

Donate and Dine –This Valentine, is a combination of an online silent auction lasting over two weeks, and a Valentine take-out Lobster or Rib dinner available for curb-side pickup on February 13th, 2021, and a special donation link

Valentines is a time of expressing friendship, love, and support for one another. From school aged children sending cute Valentine cards to all their classroom friends, to couples enjoying a romantic dinner, to family members offering Valentine themed gifts to one another. And with Covid-19 upon us, we cannot participate in a lot of these Valentine traditions. The Rotary Club of Grimsby has figured out a way to recognize those we care about and help the community at large by bidding on donated items and ordering a wonderful meal to celebrate Valentines.

Consider putting in a bid for one of our auction items! There are 3 great reasons why. You will have fun bidding, you will be supporting local charities and you will have a special gift to share with those you care about.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Dine part work?

You can pre-order either a Lobster Roll/Clam Chowder dinner with salad or a Full Rack of Ribs dinner with 2 sides and use curbside pick-up the evening of February 13th to enjoy a Valentine’s dinner with your loved ones, families, or others in your bubbles. The online order forms are available on this site from February 1st to 4 pm on February 11th.  All orders are pre-paid for by credit card.

Using your computer, tablet, or mobile you pick the number of meals you wish to order and select one of the designated curb-side pick-up times. The cost for each meal includes the food cost plus a portion of around $20 to Rotary’s community fund. The donation portion is distributed to community organizations on Rotary’s list of community charities.

How do you get the food you ordered or pick up the auction item you won?

The dinners will be available for curb-side pick-up at your preferred designated time between 4 pm and 7:30 pm on Saturday, the 13th, of the Valentine weekend in the JJ’s on the Docks/Foran’s Marine parking lot at 15 Lake St. in Grimsby. Rotarian’s will bring the meal to your vehicle, place it in your trunk or back seat and ask for proof of purchase (printed receipt or on your mobile). All successful bidders will also be able to pick up their auction items during the designated time on February 13th as well.

How does the Donate part work?

There are three ways you can donate.

(1) Individuals who purchase a meal will have a donation portion included as part of the meal cost. Two local food vendors are providing excellent discounted pricing on the food which allows the Rotary Club to add a donation component to each meal’s price.

(2) You can make a specific donation in one of three categories to either local Rotary supported charities, to the Rotary Foundation which supports international projects or to a combination of both.

Do you wish to donate to Rotary Club of Grimsby sponsored local charities and maybe a lobster or rib dinner is not on your menu? Or maybe, your heart is open to supporting more than the donation amount in the food price? We'd love the opportunity to call you a Champion supporter in our Grimsby and West Niagara Community.

The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. Maybe you are interested in providing support beyond our local community to the many worthwhile global causes that Rotary supports, A donation receipt in your name will be forwarded within 1 month. To learn more about the Rotary Foundation, see

You wish to donate locally and internationally during Valentines 2021, as the world in going through a particularly trying time with Covid -19 upon us all. The needs both locally and international are many, and we want to recognize your Superhero status. You will receive a donation receipt for the international portion of $100 and if you specify the local charity you wish your local donation to support, you will also receive a receipt for that donation portion.

(3) Community members or local businesses donate either a silent auction item, offer an in-kind donation, or sponsor the purchase of items to be auctioned off on the silent auction part of this Donate and Dine-This Valentine website. The proceeds of the silent online auction go directly to Rotary’s list of supported charities. All silent auction items are themed for Valentines and available for pick-up by the lucky bidders on the 13th as well.

When will the recipient charities receive the donations?

Historically, Rotary disburses the funds to local charities within two to four months following an event. Just after all the bookkeeping is completed. Traditionally, we have a thank-you event where donors and sponsors along with representatives of the recipient charities attend a meet-and-greet. We hope that a future relaxation of Covid restrictions will allow us to have such an event.  If not, we will organize a virtual (ZOOM) acknowledgement event.

How are the recipient charities chosen?

Recipient charities are chosen for their broad reach into our local community and the depth of the need of those they support. They are focused on supporting residents in the Grimsby and West Niagara area. For donations in excess of $200, a sponsor/donor can designate their donation to a particular charity if it is CRA registered and listed on Rotary’s list of partner charities.

What is the security around using my credit card?

When you bid or place your food order, you will also include your credit card information. It is handled just like any other online food ordering service. It has the same security and privacy protocols. When you include your credit card information with your bid for a silent auction item, it is held in trust, until the auction closes and only the successful bidders information is used and account debited.

The e-commerce payment portion is secure, proven and managed by STRIPE, a reputable and well-respected credit card processing organization. Rotary does not handle, nor see, your credit card information.

What are the fundraising and administrative costs?

Costs are kept to a minimal. They include banking and credit card processing fees for both the auction and food ordering site, website hosting fees, nominal printing costs and no administrative costs.

How is the Rotary Club observing social distancing protocols and the stay-at-home orders?

Rotary is committed to insuring everyone’s safety and always observes the 2-meter social distancing regulations and everyone wears masks at all times. The food vendors follow all health department protocols for restaurants and only time-specified curb-side pick-up is allowed.

Has the Rotary Club of Grimsby had other fundraising events?

For 45 years the Rotary Club of Grimsby has been an active and important part of the Grimsby community. The Fantasy of Trees community fundraiser brings twinkling lights, beautifully decorated trees and glamorous wreaths to the Grimsby Museum for the enjoyment of over 3,000 adults and children each year. This enjoyment translated to over $26,000 raised to support local charities and individuals in our community.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 put a stop to an in-person event and decreased Rotary’s and your ability to support our community through Fantasy of Trees. We did have a scaled-back Fantasy of Wreaths event in late 2020, and thanks to everyone who participated. Your generous support was appreciated.

Well, we are not going to let Covid-19 stop Rotary from helping our community. Donate and Dine - This Valentine is a fundraising idea that respects social-distancing protocols, stay-at-home guidelines and hopefully will bring the spirit of friendship, love, support and recognition to us all.

Which Rotary Club in Grimsby is hosting this event?

There are two Rotary Clubs in Grimsby. The sponsor of Donate and Dine-This Valentine is The Rotary Club of Grimsby, Inc. Currently, meetings of the club are via Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month at 7:00 pm. Grimsby Rotary @ Noon is not involved in this event. Both clubs are members of Rotary International and committed to serving our community.

What happens if someone overbids me in the silent auction?

If you put in a bid, and someone overbids you, don't worry. You will immediately receive an email alerting you to the new bid. We know how much fun silent auctions can be. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience that sense of excitement and anticipation while making a worthwhile contribution.

Don't just look at the auction site once. More and new vendors and businesses are coming on-board all the time and there will be additional items put on the site daily. We are sure there is something you will find just for yourself of that special someone.

Just remember to have your credit card handy. When you bid, you will also include your credit card info. It is held in trust, until the auction closes and only the successful bidders information is used and account debited.

Have we encouraged you to

make a donation?

Here's another chance!
