Welcome!

Every fall for some 40 plus years, cadets of the Robert land Academy have engaged in a three day exercise in the heart of the Niagara region. It is an exercise that is as much mental as it is physical and is designed to bring the Academy together as a team. It is the one activity every cadet no matter how old remembers because it required the greatest effort and provided the greatest reward. Not to mention we were all sore at Thanksgiving dinner.

This year's exercise will take place from October 3rd to October 5th. Below, you will find out a little bit more about the current day exercise and what to expect. This is the third consecutive year that the Academy has invited back alumni. We are excited and look forward to seeing you and sharing the experience.

In the past we have alumni attend ranging in age from 17 to 57, of all shapes and sizes and from a broad range of the Academy’s past.  Most everyone fits in very quickly as we have a common past and as a team once again we have a challenge to conquer together.

You are welcome to attend all three days, any portion of the days, or simply partake in the BBQ at the finish line (Queenston Heights). Registrants are welcome to a Bunk in Fitzgibbon hall (Space is limited to the first 10 registrants) or can choose to stay off campus at a local hotel (more details to come). The Academy will feed us 3 squares a day if you so choose or you are welcome to have breakfast and dinner off campus.

Below is a tentative schedule more to give you an idea of what to expect. You are welcome to partake in any or all of the days or just come for the barbeque.

Fitness Level

As a note of both caution and respect for Academy resource, you need to be prepared for the March. Day one in particular is very rigorous and could easily result in your injury or medical emergency if you are not prepared. Also, you may discover that you're not 17 anymore and want a drive to the endpoint. These events use up Academy resources that should be focused on the cadets. That being said no one is going to leave you stranded and if you need to be pick up you will be taken care of.

Unless you are an avid walker or runner, we would highly recommend the following prior to your arrival.

AUG-SEPT           4 X 6k walk in Boots

                             3 X 12K walk in boots

Avid walkers or runners should do so in boots.

I remember coming back to do the exercise the fall after my grad year. Didn’t think much of it as only three months had passed, and I was in great shape. Mistake! It killed me at 19.  Do the minimum preparatory walks and you will be in good shape.
