Goats for Kids
Goats provide income and food for families, with cheese and milk production and selling live animals.
Begun as a fundraising initiative by Mel Bott and Dr Ivan Hucal, "Goats for Kids" is how we are helping families become self-sustaining in the long term, using this year when parents and guardians regular work is on hold to build resiliency and a successful financial plan for the future.
With both immediate and long term impact, the "Goats for Kids" iniative will help our students and their families get through covid and still get their education, while giving their families the skills and assets they need to weather this and future hardships.
What We Do
Each family that participates receives:
1 pregnant goat
1 year of feed for goat & kids
1 year business mentorship
One Goat can Change A Future!
Our pilot group of 10 families received goats earlier this year, and within days the first set of twin kid goats were born to one of them. Each baby goat will be able to be sold for 2500 Birr when ready for market. That's 5000 Birr return for a 4000 Birr investment - and that's just the first set of goats born!
The positive financial impact of selling those goats will change that family's life, and repeated pregnancies will provide a stable future income.
Since then, another 10 families have embarked on their goat business journey, and we are awaiting the birth of many more baby goats.
This Giving Tuesday, we are asking for donations of 150 more goats so that many more families can join "Goats for Kids" and see the change for their future.
