Haircuts for Health Care

As we all stay at home and help to 'plank that COVID-19 curve,' hair is getting seriously out of control. None of us want to cheat on our hairdresser, right?

But COVID-19 physical distancing is leading to straggly beards, fuzzy crew cuts, stripy roots, and out of control bangs. We need to take action!

Once the goal has been reached I will shave my head at the same length of my beard. This is incentive to reach the goal quickly. I know this can happen...

Welcome to the self-isolation salon! Hand the clippers to your kids, the scissors to your spouse. Shave that head, trim those bangs, wax those... well whatever! You get the drift. You can even paint your nails or get a massage.

Every chop, snip and buzz will help raise vital funds to open the doors on a state-of-the-art new Health Science Centre at Okanagan College.

Join Us!

There are lots of ways to get involved:

1) Cut and fundraise

Create your own fundraising page, and ask your friends to donate towards a creative new "do." Don't forget to show off the results.

2) Just cut

Donate the equivalent of your regular haircut or treatment. Kids cut options available.

3) Donate

Love the cause but not ready to cut your hair? You can support the training of health care professionals by donating online here.

4) Sponsor us

Contact foundation@okanagan.bc.ca for details of our sponsorship opportunities.

Shear it on Social Media

Make sure to post before and after photos on Facebook and Instagram or video encouraging your friends to donate or cut their hair too. Use the hashtag #haircutsforhealthcare and tag Okanagan College Foundation. Below are some examples:

My hair is out of control! Seeing I can't visit my hairdresser, I've decided to take matters into my own hands while supporting a good cause. I'm donating the price of my haircut to the Okanagan College Foundation to help them open a new Health Sciences Centre and train health care heroes for our community. Join me and chop your locks for a good cause! #haircutsforhealthcare @Okanagan College Foundation

It's been more than a month, and my hair needs a serious cut. I've set a fundraising goal of $200 and if I reach it, I will give the clippers to my daughter who can shave my head any way she sees fit! All funds raised will go to the Okanagan College Foundation to help them open a new Health Sciences Centre and train health care professionals for our community. Help me reach my goal!

A case of haircut revenge. A $400 goal will allow the dad to cut his son's hair.

Keep supporting local salons

While salons may not be able to cut your hair in-person, many are offering virtual advice and product delivery. Please support them and be sure to stay loyal once this is over. When we get through this, we will need their talent and help more than ever!

Cut at your own risk!

As a result of COVID-19, there are many online tutorials on how to cut your hair. Make sure to do your research and go slowly. Okanagan College Foundation accepts no liability for failed cuts or injuries resulting from participation.
