Welcome to our 4th annual Handbags for Hospice!

Handbags for Hospice Durham is our annual fundraiser that brings our community together to raise funds to build two hospice residences in Durham Region – 10 beds in Whitby and 9 beds in Clarington.


On the evening of November 16, 2022, YOU will be our special guest. Last year we went virtual and it was a tremendous success raising $98,000 and we are doing it again! But there’s a twist…80 guests will have the chance to join us in person as part of our Live Studio Audience!

Special Musical Guest

We are excited welcome back Alexa Goldie as our musical guest!


Singer/Songwriter Alexa Goldie has been singing since the age of 5. Alexa began writing music and performing in her hometown of Kingston when she was 12. Alexa is self-taught in the piano, guitar, and the ukulele. At the age of 13, Alexa was discovered, signed, and shortly after flown down to Los Angeles to begin her musical journey. After multiple trips down to Los Angeles, Nashville, and Toronto, she has created great relationships with various producers and writers. Alexa has worked with Ron Fair, Barrett Yeretsian, Jens Gad, Angel Taylor, Jenn Bostic, Jessica Mitchell, Shelley Peiken, Patricia Conroy, Robyn Ottolini, Danielle Brisebois and many more. 

 

At the age of 23, Alexa has accomplished a lot; performing at the Listening Room Cafe in Nashville, Bluebird Cafe, Jason Aldean’s Bar, Casa Rosa (Miranda Lamberts Bar), Toronto International Film Festival, the ACC (Air Canada Centre) for Rotary International and Beverly Hills Grammys Pre Party. Alexa came first place in the ‘Mic's On Fire', The Voice of The Ocean UK, Port Hope Idol, and CMTC singing competitions and was a finalist in the Unsigned International Competition! Most recently, Alexa has released her debut country EP 'High Road’ and been awarded with the 'Rising Star' and 'Excellence in Songwriting' awards by SongStudio. Outside of her music career, Alexa enjoys teaching music lessons to children in her community. She has been teaching piano, guitar, vocals, and ukulele to local students since 2016 and has been awarded by the OMAs with the Teacher of the Year award in 2021.

How can I buy a ticket and access the event?

Click Create an account, and make sure to add in your credit card details. By adding your credit card details now, you'll be able to easily click to donate or bid in the moment!

Once you've added your details you're ready to go! From here you can purchase event tickets, golden tickets, bid, donate, and watch the live stream on Trellis with ease!

Do you already have an account? 

If you joined us last year and purchased a ticket and/or bid for items, you already have an account.

I purchased my virtual ticket, now what?

Now that you have purchased your ticket, your account is set up and you have access to bid on items in our amazing Silent Auction that is open now, purchase a Golden Ticket and make a donation!

 

A link for the Live Event will be sent out via email to guests who have purchased a ticket, on the afternoon of the event.

It’s a great idea to log into your account before the show so you are ready to join us in real time and are ready to bid on the Live Auction and make a donation during our Fund the Need segments!

I am going to the Live Event. Will I be placing my bids online too?

Yes! As a Live Studio Audience Guest, you will be bidding online with the rest of our guests. Please bring your mobile device to the show! You can follow the steps in the "How do I Buy a Ticket and Access The Event" section and make sure your account is set up!

How do I bid on an item?

By now you should have your account set up! Log into your account, click Silent Auction on the top right of the screen. To bid on an item, click the “view and bid” button.

How do I bid anonymously?

Bidding anonymously is easy! Sign up or log in to create your account. Once logged in, click on your name in the top right corner. Select My Account and look for the checkbox to Bid Anonymously. The system will assign you a fake name.

When do I pay for the item I won?

It's done automatically! When the auction closes or you have placed a “Buy It Now” bid, your credit card will be charged for any won items, based on the card details you shared before you placed your first bid. You'll be notified of this charge to your account by email and text notifications.

How will I know if I’ve been outbid?

When you are outbid on an item, you will receive an email letting you know you’ve been outbid. You also have the option to enable text notifications for quick updates or browser notifications.

How will I know if I’ve won?

When the auction is closed, you will receive an email notifying you of the item you won.

What happens if two people bid the same amount with automated bidding?

The first person to set up their bids with automated bidding will win the item when the auction closes. We'd encourage you to set up automated bidding early so you have the best chances of winning!

Where do I pick up my winning item?

After the event, you will receive an email with pick up details!
