About
The Invisible Ribbon Gala is more than just an evening of community philanthropy. It is about raising awareness of the strength behind the uniform – the strength of military families. Military families are called upon to be resilient and steadfast when their Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member is called upon in the name of Canada. The unique challenges faced by military families every day can have an impact on the operational effectiveness of a CAF member; which is why we at the Trenton MFRC are dedicated to going above and beyond to ensure military families have the resources they need and the community support behind them to be resilient.
Invisible Ribbon Gala: CANADA
When you think of Canada, what comes to mind? Politeness, snowy winters and summers by the lake, bilingualism, freedom, universal health care, hockey, home?
For many military families, answering the common question of “Where are you from?” or “Where is home?” is not an easy task. A military family could start their journey in St. Jean, Quebec, then be posted to Borden, Ontario, or Shilo, Manitoba. Comox, British Columbia could be next, or Gander, Newfoundland, or even Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories.
Trenton, Ontario may be their last posting, but how would you describe home when you have lived in so many places across Canada? For most, the simple answer is “Home is Canada!” However, due to the unique challenges and moves of the military lifestyle, service families are often at a higher disadvantage when obtaining a primary care physician. There is even a common misconception that military families receive health care through their CAF base.
To offset this challenge, the Trenton MFRC has made a goal to create sustainable health care solutions for military families. To achieve this, we identified a short-term and a long-term approach which includes developing partnerships with health care officials and regional health agencies. In the short-term, the Trenton MFRC’s aim is to support military families by facilitating access to virtual health care tools that could help with their immediate health concerns. With this in mind, the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) is pleased to host its 16th annual Invisible Ribbon Gala: CANADA. On Saturday, May 8, 2021, we will celebrate the true north, strong and, free!
