"The lack of cleanliness can take our lives"

-Charimaya Majhi, Jholunge, Nepal

No toilet means a lack of education for girls, no dignity for women and dirty water contributing to disease that claims the lives of almost 800 children everyday, one every two minutes.

Together let's wipe out

the sanitation crisis!

Project #1 - Namuna

A whopping 41% of schools in Nepal lack clean and functioning toilets. We've partnered with Namuna Primary School in Jumla Bazaar with the goal of accomplishing the following:

1) Construct a gender friendly sanitation complex (3 female, 2 male, 1 handicap/wheelchair accessible) for over 280 students and their teachers.

2) Implement the first hygiene curriculum at Namuna Primary School by training local teachers who can teach their kids.

3) Collaborating with locally based artisans, actors and musicians and connect with the community through advocacy initiatives.

Cost: $8,000

Project Start: March 2020

Project #2 - Jholunge

We came to Jholunge after the earthquake in 2015 and worked alongside the community to build sustainable eco toilets. So far we have built three and our work is far from over.

1) Construct 7 urine diverting toilets, increasing the total toilet coverage in the village from 30% to 100%.

2) Supporting Suryoda Primary School, by providing resources to continue with hygiene education, as well as training incoming teachers.

3)  Continue research on our toilet concept, using worm composting and building a greenhouse to use organic fertilizers.

Total Budget: $7,000

Project Start: June 2020

How do you chose where you will do your projects?

The goal in our work is to reach as many people as we can. In accordance with both Canadian and Nepalese laws, we partner directly with established non-profits from the local areas we work in, who help us reach areas that need us most. These organizations share our philosophy and enable us to ensure the long term vision of our work. You can view the partners we work with at https://www.manavtaproject.org/partners.
