Thank you for supporting Okanagan College Indigenous student awards!

Our "Sticks Up" Bracket Challenge has served as a fundraiser for Indigenous student awards since 2019. Since its creation, the OC 'Sticks Up' for Indigenous Students has benefited three students, providing valuable financial support during their post-secondary studies.

The Okanagan College 'Sticks Up' for Indigenous Students Award provides one or more awards to students of Indigenous ancestry enrolled in full-time study in any university studies, degree, diploma or certificate program at Okanagan College. The recipients are selected based on financial need to help overcome financial barriers to post-secondary education.

Okanagan College is committed to developing relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous faculty, staff, students, and community members. By supporting student awards, we are pursuing initiatives that increase the participation and success of Indigenous learners at the College.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register?

Ticket sales will be conducted online via this website only. You must be a resident of British Columbia, currently in British Columbia, and 19+ to play. You will receive an electronic confirmation from Trellis of your purchase, and then an email from the Okanagan College Foundation with your individually-numbered ticket as well as a link to join the FREE NHL.com Stanley Cup Playoffs Bracket Challenge.

How do I play the Bracket Challenge?

All paid entrants will be sent an invitation to join the free NHL.com Stanley Cup Playoffs Bracket Challenge. A private group will be established when the challenge “goes live” online for tracking the progress of all participants. Entrants must have a free NHL.com account to participate.

You may purchase additional tickets to submit additional brackets - one bracket per ticket, please!

What is the Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule?

Currently, the regular season is scheduled to conclude on Friday, April 29th., though all dates are subject to change in the event of further games being postponed and re-scheduled. The NHL's intention is to award the Stanley Cup no later than June 30th.

How do I fill out my bracket?

When the bracket is released, entrants will go to the NHL Bracket Challenge to select who they think will win each of the 15 Best-of-Seven series among the 16 teams that qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Entrants may change their selections as often as they wish prior to the scheduled puck drop for the first game. Once the tournament has commenced, all selections will be locked and finalized.

Participants fill out the bracket in its entirety from a single webpage. They will check the team name to advance that team to the next round. Once their bracket is complete, they will be prompted to submit their prediction of the combined score for the combined number of goals scored in the Stanley Cup Finals (see below for Tie-Breaking procedure). Once that is entered, the SUBMIT button will change colour allowing them to register their tournament bracket.

Points will be awarded on the system used by NHL.com.

Tie-breaking procedure – The Bracket Challenge has participants predict the combined number of goals scored for the duration of the Stanley Cup Finals. The participant that is closest to the actual combined score (regardless of over or under of the actual score) will be given the higher ranking and declared the winner in the event of a tie.

How will the winner be declared?

Upon the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Foundation will review all brackets and apply any necessary tie-breakers to determine First, Second, and Third Place recipients. In the event of a tie between two or more entrants who have the most total points, the tie-breaking procedure will be applied.
