John James O'Brien - Tree of Knowledge

My door speaks to new beginnings, through a dormant "Tree of Knowledge" poised to come to life. Acanthus leaves symbolize achievement through adversity. Air and Water - balancing thought and emotion. Fire and Earth - balancing creativity and reality. Five Celtic knots represent transformation through love. Seven chakra rise through the tree. It is my hope that this door will inspire living full lives, for its owners, and for those benefiting from Habitat for Humanity homes.

The eclectic collections of family friends and an ‘Auntie Mame’ childhood filled with art, theatre and literary figures inspired my appreciation of masters and primitives, posters, illustrations and design for the stage and architecture. Undergraduate studies at UVic and living in Asia and Europe introduced two critical tensions: art as politics and as release.
