About Place des Arts

Place des Arts is a not-for-profit arts education centre located in Coquitlam. We deliver quality arts programs and cultural experiences for people of all ages, abilities and interests. We believe engaging with the arts is essential to the human experience and everyone should have the chance to explore their creativity regardless of their circumstances. Removing barriers to arts participation is a top priority for us. Proceeds from the raffle will support subsidies, bursaries and no-cost community programs.

Help us make the arts more accessible for in-need children and families by purchasing tickets! Winner takes half!

Supporting Our Community

Every year, Place des Arts awards scholarships, bursaries and subsidies, while also delivering many no-cost and low-cost, inclusive events and programs, with the goal of encouraging wider participation and deeper engagement in the arts. These programs and initiatives are only made possible through the generous contributions of supporters like you.

The following are just a few of the many ways we are working to make arts education accessible to everyone.

Summer Theatre Troupe

Since 2013, the Summer Theatre Troupe has established itself as a valuable space for young performers to connect, learn and express themselves through meaningful performance experiences in a supportive environment.

The program also provides free, family-friendly, live performances to the Coquitlam community each summer, inspiring a love of theatre in children, teens and adults.

Last year's production, featuring 9 talented youth actors and 5 emerging artists, attracted over 850 audience members to Town Centre Park.

Artist in Residence Workshops

A cornerstone of Place des Arts' community programming, Artist in Residence offers no-cost, artist-led workshops to local underserved schools in Maillardville. It is the only program of its kind in the area, providing opportunities for young people to explore their creativity and learn new skills through various art practices from around the world. Over the years, the program has grown into an innovative and inspiring initiative that meets the needs of Coquitlam schools and provides a space for artists. During the 2022/2023 season, Place des Arts has hosted 3 artists so far, delivering a total of 30 workshops and reaching over 650 children.

Creative HeARTs

During the early days of the pandemic, we learned that marginalized members of our community, especially newcomer immigrant families, were disproportionately affected. Limited opportunities to make connections in their new communities made them more susceptible to the psychological impacts of social distancing. In collaboration with SHARE Family and Community Services and S.U.C.C.E.S.S., Place des Arts launched the Creative HeARTs program, offering free in-person arts workshops led by local artists. The program provides a safe space for families to explore their new community and promotes well-being through art and creative expression. In 2022, over 130 people benefited from 7 workshops offered by 3 artists.

The pictures below showcase artworks produced by students whose creative endeavors were made possible through our subsidies and no-cost programming.
