Join us to support survivors of sexual assault:

For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, UBCO and SVPRO (Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office) are partnering with the Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society to shine a spotlight on support for survivors of sexual violence!

The Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society works every day to support and empower survivors through adult trauma counselling services and our other programs.

Last year, they provided vital service to 2,892 clients. With a current waitlist for trauma counselling for sexual assault that ranges between 6 months to over 1 year, you can help those in need receive counselling services by joining us for a Public Breakfast by donation. All proceeds will go to the Adult Trauma Counselling Program at the Elizabeth Fry Society through the #SPEAKOUT Campaign.

For additional information on Sexual Assault Awareness Month & SVPRO, see here.

What is #SPEAKOUT?

Elizabeth Fry Society launched the #SPEAKOUT Campaign on November 1st, as a way to break the silence & shine a spotlight on the realities of sexual assault in the Okanagan. This is a movement to engage the entire Okanagan community around speaking out to Support Survivors of sexual violence, and to fundraise for Trauma Counselling Services. The waitlist for trauma counselling for sexual assault currently ranges from between 6 months to over 1 year. This waitlist is due strictly to a lack of funding to implement counselling services.

This is where the community comes in! Elizabeth Fry Society set an initial goal of $7,500 to provide 100 counselling sessions to Survivors of sexual violence, and a secondary goal of reaching $15,000 to provide 200 counselling sessions - 10 Sessions each for 20 Survivors.
