We are thrilled to welcome three authors for an engaging series of readings and discussion of young adult fiction as part of Word Vancouver 2021! Together, we will explore one of the most exciting periods of the human experience and journey through the process of how these coming-of-age stories came to be.

Christianne Hayward 

Rae Spoon

Rae Spoon is a non-binary musician, producer and author based on Lekwungen Territory (Victoria). Rae has published three books with Arsenal Pulp Press and a humorous booklet called How to (Hide) Be(hind) Your Songs. Their first book, First Spring Grass Fire, was nominated for a Lambda Literary award and the co-written Gender Failure has been translated into German and is on a fifth pressing. Rae’s first YA novel, Green Glass Ghosts, was published in Spring 2021 with illustrations by Gem Hall.

Sabina Khan

Sabina Khan is the author of Zara Hossain Is Here and The Love & Lies Of Rukhsana Ali. She is an educational consultant and a karaoke enthusiast. After living in Germany, Bangladesh, Macao, Illinois and Texas, she has finally settled down in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, with her husband, two daughters and the best puppy in the world.

Tanya Boteju

Tanya Boteju is a teacher and writer living on unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations (Vancouver, BC). Part-time, she teaches English to clever and sassy young people. The rest of her time, she writes and procrastinates from writing. Her novel, Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens (Simon & Schuster, 2019), was named a Top Ten Indie Next Pick by the American Booksellers Association. Her next YA novel, Bruised (Simon & Schuster, 2021), has been selected as a Gold Standard book by the Junior Library Guild.
