What Is The #1MillionCampaign?

An initiative to fund One Million Counselling Sessions across Canada.

Founded and operated by You Are Collective, this campaign works by providing support to grassroots organizations offering traditional and non-traditional counselling and mental health services throughout the country. Our vision at You Are Collective is a world with no stigmas, we want to champion a movement that gets us there. Being part of the conversation helps to do this, which is why we want to encourage people to share their stories, challenges, experiences, and triumphs while making sure they have a safe and accessible place to do so.

No one person experiences the same journey as another which is why we recognize the many different resources and tools available to care for our mental health and illness. We're starting with a lofty goal of One Million Counselling Sessions because we've experienced first hand the monumental impact counselling and group support has had on us, our relationships, our boundaries, and so many other things. Our passion to share the help and encouragement we received and continue to receive has instilled a dedication to making counselling of all kinds accessible to ALL.

We're partnering with charities and organizations across Canada to help provide funded counselling and therapy sessions. Counselling and therapy can come in a variety of formats, from traditional talk therapy to art and music therapy to yoga, breath work and other support groups. #JoinTheMovement + see how you can be part of the #1MillionCampaign.

The Statistics

1 in 5 Canadians reported needing mental health care in 2018 with 1 in 3 Canadians experiencing a mental illness.

HALF of those citizens needing mental health care went with their needs either partially or entirely unmet.

The greatest barriers in trying to access care were discovered to be affordability and accessibility. Individuals don't know where to go for help and even if they do, they can't afford it.

FAST FORWARD two years and the whole world is living through a global pandemic. You can bet the numbers have increased.

In April 2020, 46% of Canadians classified their mental health as "good, poor, or fair" one month later that number rose to 52%.

If we can continue to do our part in sharing our experiences, resources, and where people can go for help we can start to break down barriers. If we can make sure when someone does get the courage to seek help that it's provided, we can start to save lives.

What Is You Are Collective (YAC)?

You Are Collective is an Okanagan-based Social Enterprise. The organization is focused on ending the stigma around mental health and illness through empowering apparel, sharing living experience, and community events. Founders, Rebecca and Michael, had been living through their own separate mental health journey's and noticed an immense lack of support and understanding.

The stories of people waiting months for care sounded unimaginable, until they waited more than a month and a half to receive their first covered counseling appointment. The news that people, friends, and family are dying by suicide because they can't get the help they need or don't know where to go for support sounded unimaginable. Until Rebecca and Michael ended up in the hospital not caring if there would be a next day.

The #1MillionCampaign is something YAC is excited to share and work on to make a greater, focused impact in the mental health and illness community. Each apparel item purchased includes a minimum donation of 10% to the #1MillionCampaign along with additional donations, event proceeds, and residual revenue.

Support The #1MillionCampaign through purchasing your own empowering apparel, donating to the campaign, sharing your voice or reaching out to collaborate!

You Are Collective
You Are Collective is a local Okanagan initiative to raise awareness and increase education for mental health and illness. When we (Michael & Rebecca) first sought out to raise money for mental health, we did it based on the lack of resources and accessibility we noticed while we were going through our own struggles. We often felt alone and isolated as the stigma around mental health and illness affected us whether it was at work, school, home, public ... You name it. And the devastating part is that it's still there. We noticed a huge gap in the mental health community and set to work using apparel and our voices as a vehicle for our movement.
