Improving Wildlife Care Worldwide
Improving Wildlife Care Worldwide
Did you know that wildlife rescue and rehabilitation happens all over the world? Have you ever wondered how people learn to rescue and rehabilitate wild animals? That’s what we do! At the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC) we offer support and education through resources, classes, and literature to improve the welfare of native wildlife. Our members and students do amazing things for local animals and global conservation. From birds in your backyard to pangolins in southeast Asia, IWRC works to elevate care for wildlife worldwide.
Our Mission & Vision
We provide evidence-based education and resources on wildlife rehabilitation to move the field of wildlife rehabilitation forward; to promote wildlife conservation and welfare; and to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts worldwide, through better understanding of wild animal ecology, behavior, and welfare.
We envision a world where the conservation and welfare of wild animals is well served by an effective symbiotic relationship between wildlife rehabilitators and other wildlife professionals.

IWRC courses
Creating educational materials and training is a big part of our mission. We offer a foundational "Basic" class that is used by several US states and Canadian provinces as a permitting requirement. We also have advanced classes on topics such as fluid therapy, pain and wound management, and Zoonoses (diseases that can be transferred from humans to animals).
Through these courses, we offer a high standard of training with the goal of better welfare and care for wildlife around the globe. during the Covid-19 pandemic, we had to quickly transition our Basic course online and we have placed priority on making more advanced courses virtual as well.

Testimonials
“IWRC has been providing wildlife rehabilitators science based training, textbooks and peer-reviewed journal articles for 46 years! If you brought an injured bird or animal to a wildlife rehabilitator, chances are the person who took care of that animal was trained by the IWRC. If you believe that people caring for injured wildlife should have a comprehensive knowledge of subjects such as nutrition, pain management, zoonoses, and wound care then please consider a donation to IWRC …!” - Jon Williams
“The IWRC is a wealth of resources and the courses are crucial to staying up with best practices and globally-recognized standards for rehabilitation.” - Kristina Madarang Stahl
“I still remember taking my Basic class from IWRC and learning so much. That knowledge has been with me all these years. I think it was then, attending that symposium that I felt I was part of a community that I could learn and share from.”- Sharon Baird
