Why We Need Your Help

Station 8 of Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR) is an all-volunteer group dedicated to providing Search and Rescue to the waters South Delta, Surrey, Whiterock, and the surrounding area. Station 8 has been part of the community for 40 years watching over 600 square nautical miles. Highly skilled, trained crews stand ready to respond within minutes of being paged, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Volunteers put significant time into training to become proficient in all aspects of SAR operations and are often called away from their jobs and families at moment’s notice.

Search and rescue calls are variable and can include numerous scenarios from towing an incapacitated vessel to safety, life and death situations involving sinking vessels, assisting paddles boarders caught in our sometimes-unforgiving currents and providing first aid and/or life saving measures in remote coastal locations. Additionally, volunteers take part in many community events – marching in parades, setting up information tents at markets, and providing services at some events such as the annual polar bear swim at centennial beach.

The Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM-SAR) Station 08, Delta, BC is funded by the Delta Marine Rescue Society (DMRS), a registered non-profit charitable society formed to fund and raise funding for marine Search and Rescue operations (SAR) in local waters. The society is partially funded by the British Columbia Direct Access community grants for public safety. In addition, the society receives partial reimbursement of fuel for training and emergency calls. The remaining funds are raised by the DMRS in the community. To remain operational an additional fifty thousand dollars must be raised every year, and at times more due to unanticipated operational expenses
