Voices Against Violence

Event to Raise Awareness on Gender-Based Violence

On October 4th, we will be hosting our online celebration ceremony to share stories of inspiration from phenomenal speakers, provide solution focused content from top service providers, and announce how much we have raised towards our case. There will be a door prize, live entertainment, silent auction items , and much more!

Leading up to the event, September 28th-October 3rd we will be displaying stories and statistics on the topic of gender-based violence in local downtown Kelowna business storefronts which people can read as they walk by or visit the store!

Previous Years...

In previous years, we have held an annual rally and march to protest sexual violence and take back our streets. This event was created to take a stand in defiance of violence against women. It was called "Take Back The Night". While we can’t gather in large groups this year, we encourage our community to gather online at our online ceremony and come together in small groups to explore downtown Kelowna.

Chelsea Anderson (Speaker)

Chelsea is a Registered Professional Counsellor and one of the counsellors for the Adult Counselling Program here at the Elizabeth Fry Society. Her perspective on counselling is that change for clients comes from a place of trust and safety, often-times something our clients lack in their lives. She pays special attention to create warm, safe, non-judgemental relationships with her clients first, so that they can work together to achieve the change they wish to see in their lives. Every person carries stories about their life experiences and what those mean to their sense of self, so her work with clients really focusses on the narratives they tell themselves that ultimately shape their behaviours and beliefs.
