About Western Canada Theatre
Western Canada Theatre plays a pivotal role in the professional and community theatre ecology of the BC Interior. As one of Canada’s 10 largest regional theatres, our broad-based programming includes family productions, topical new plays with social resonance, and educational programming. Our mandate places an emphasis on Canadian and Indigenous plays and artist development, including the development and production of new work by emerging artists, as well as the production of plays by established playwrights and creators. Through our touring and co-production activities, we create productions that over the past five years have been seen by over 150,000 people across Canada, including in 14 different communities in B.C. We commission and generate new plays and creations by B.C. artists, including many from underrepresented communities across the Interior.
We support education and audience development through The Hub for Creative Learning, which includes our Stage One and Next Stage Theatre School, senior and school matinee programs, outreach activities, and young audience programming.
As the largest professional arts organization between Vancouver and Calgary, our activities, productions, and programs serve a vast audience throughout the southern Interior and across British Columbia.
