Does my organization need a license to host an online raffle or 50/50 in Alberta?
Yes! To legally run an online raffle or 50/50 your organization needs to obtain a license from the AGLC. For general information on eligibility, we recommend the AGLC website.
How much money does it cost to run an online raffle or 50/50?
Alberta Gaming charges an application fee for the license that varies depending on the type of raffle you want to run. For details on the application fee, check the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis website as this is subject to change.
To give you an idea of cost here is an outline of general application costs but be sure to check with AGLC for the most up to date info:
Less than $20,000 there is no charge for an application.
$20,000 to $100,000 there is $150 application fee
$100,000 to $1,000,000 there is a $500 application fee
More than $1,000,000 there is a $1,000 application fee.
Trellis charges a one-time setup fee and then invoices after the raffle based on the performance of your raffle. There are also credit card processing fees. We use Stripe as our trusted payment provider to ensure the safety of our customers and their customers!
How do you set up an online raffle fundraiser?
The unique thing about running a raffle with Trellis compared to other raffle providers is that with Trellis an online raffle can be a stand-alone event or added to an online fundraiser! Whether you want to sell 50-50 tickets, raffle off an amazing prize, or collect donations for your charity AND hold a raffle, you can do it on the Trellis platform. Before you run a raffle – be sure to join our mandatory raffle setup session and find out how easy it is to add a raffle to your fundraising mix! With Trellis, you provide the information about the raffle you want to run and we set it up for you! It’s that easy.
How long does it take to set up a raffle fundraiser?
To run a raffle in Alberta you need to pre-qualify as an organization. For the most up to date information on this, please check the AGLC website.
Once you’re approved as an organization, which can take 3 – 5 business days, then your license can be issued very quickly depending on the size of the Total Ticket Value (how much you intend to sell!)
For raffles less than $20,000, it will likely take just a few days.
For raffles more than $20,000 you should allow for at least 8 weeks.
